What do you think of NAFTA?

I've been watching this NAFTA thing ever since it came about, and though I was opposed at first, I now think that it's a good thing.

Mexico (pop. 88 million) has way more unskilled labour than either Canada (pop. 31 million) or the States (pop. 292 million.) I believe that this will force more of our unskilled jobs down to the south (or offshore), thereby forcing Canadians and Americans to become better educated. While unskilled jobs will never disappear from our lands, I think that it will become more difficult than ever for unskilled workers to find jobs.

I can personally testify that food has become a lot less expensive, while maintaining the same quality that it did before. In the kitchen where I work, we're seeing lots and lots more imports from America and Mexico. This cheaper food has allowed my boss to make more of a profit and (maybe this is rare) our wages have gone up and he's even thrown in a Prescription Drug Plan.

Sure, we have seen a reduction of players in major markets due to various players moving overseas or to less-expensive jurisdictions, but I think think that this is only a result of the implementation of NAFTA. NAFTA has only been with us a decade or so and it's still working itself out, it will calm down.

Any thoughts or opinions?

Until our Public Schools are forced to provide a basic education to the children,,,,we have our own "Third World Labor Force" in need of the jobs.

Have you ever noticed a McDonalds cash register? Not a number in sight, just pictures.... What happens when the kids can't tell a cheese-burger from Chicken-McNuggets?
