Dear America - I found this today on the ABC News Online (Australia.) I know for the past few years you have been asking yourselves why you have been attacked. Here's a pretty good answer - I'll be this wasn't reported in your media!

US soldiers allegedly kill two girls in Iraq

US troops have allegedly shot dead two young Iraqi sisters near Baqubah, north of Baghdad.

Iraqi police and family members say American troops shot the 12-year-old and 15-year-old as they were collecting wood from a field.

The older girl died on the spot and her sister died later of her wounds.

A policeman claims that US forces handed one of the girls' bodies over to the police "arguing that she had a gun in her possession".

Police searched the family home but found nothing suspicious.

Coalition forces in Iraq are investigating claims, but have declined to make further comment.

*************************

Wow, murdered two young girls who couldn't even drive yet. Heroes?

I think that most people would call it by one word - Propoganda.

Your government (and I leave that word uncapitalized on purpose) realizes that the American media is controlled by fewer than ten players.

How many major, INDEPENDENT media outlets do you know? That's what I thought!

Hi Export, I have read a few of your writings on this site and I can clearly see that you have a deep hatred for the USA. I do agree with you though, that we Americans only see what “they “ want us too. But it is something that is changing as this internet wave spreads. I hope you don’t see all Americans as evil people. Remember there are millions of us and not all of us can be good. I’m sure it is the same in Canada

Wow, youngamerica, you really caught me off guard there! But you are absolutely correct, I really should be more clear when I post. I've met a LOT more nice and polite Americans than I have evil and mean ones!

My anger is directed solely at the current Administration. I have nothing against the American people and even support Free Trade, as I think this will bring North America closer to a European Union-style continent which we'll collectively need to compete on a global scale.

And, you're right, it is the same in Canada. We've got the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) which is funded by the Federal Government. I sometimes wonder that if the CBC started being critical of the Government, would the Government continue funding it?

No, youngamerica, we aren't all that different after all.

I've spent time in Nova Scotia and also enjoyed Price Ewdard Island. I listened to the C.B.C. while there and I must confess, they're quite similar to our N.P.R. and P.B.S. systems. All Left-Wing in nature, and exist off the People.

Ever wonder what would happen if they actually had to earn a living?

Export, I see your point!

I was in London a couple of months ago and watched a bit of Fox news on Satellite, our satellite doesn't get Fox thankfully!, anyway, they were reporting on a recent bomb blast in Bahgdad showing all the visuals etc. On the bottom of the screen in big red letters were the words 'War on Terror.' At first I didn't think anything of it, as I sure most people wouldn't, but I started thinking and realised that Iraq never had anything to do with any of the terrorist attacks. The claim that they were aiding Al-Qaida was nonsense, as I think was confirmed recently, and they had up until then never attacked America or any of its allies! Neither did they ever have the capability to do so, as I'm sure we've all accepted with the whold missing WMD debacle!

Given this, why was it being labled as a target of the war on terror? I thought that the invasion was to secure its freedom, not prevent it from committing 'more' or any terrorist attacks at all!
Is this some of the propaganda which helped Bush rally the support for going into Iraq in the first place?

We often don't agree, and we sometimes think the author of a post is uninformed at best, but 'SPEW' is part of what this site is about. Now, I believe we should always keep an eye towards civility, that being said, however, if we kept it to ourselves, we wouldn't have much of a conversation going here. Please express yourself and your views, and encourage others to do the same. Viva la free speech!

Oh, I'd say so. Some people seem to take it quite seriously, even dropping their voices and whispering the phrase! But then others give a little chuckle and sarcastic smile when they say it. As propoganda, it's actually quite effective, with 'terror' being the operative word. Unsurprisingly, there are ways to link pretty much any activity to terrorism. Smoke pot? You support terrorists. Critical of the war? You support terrorists. Coke or Pepsi: terrorists again!

As much as I hate it, it's good marketing!

It IS nonsense!! You'd better believe it was propaganda! He and his band of merry morons had almost a whole year to beat it into our heads that Iraq had WMD. All done through the media. And though many of us protested, there were many more who believed him. After this "war" started, many of us KEPT protesting, and were labeled as being Un-Patriotic (sp?)!! That was his sole purpose for going into this war, for basically creating genocide in Iraq, was because Saddam had WMD. --At least, that's what he told us anyway!

Then, when the report came out that Iraq did not, in fact, harbor any WMD, you'd better believe his tune changed, and real fast! The media picked up on that too, and then just as quickly swept it under the rug.

I could say a lot more here, but I've run out of time. ;)

"Band of merry morons". WOW, I bet you came up with that one yourself.
