Today, the Canadian Press reports that there is trouble and unrest in Iran. The CP reports that the unrest originally began as a student protest against privatizing universities and has snowballed into anti-government protests across the country.
However, a little bit of searching finds the Iranian Government has accused the USA of having a hand in these protests and violence. Iran is now surrounded on three sides by the US military machine, is being accused by the US as having a non-peaceful nuclear industry (but is, of course, willing to allow inspections under certain conditions.)
Bush, again quite naturally, is again spouting off about his ideas about 'freedom' and how it should be implimented across the world. After all, now Afganistan and Iraq are becoming democracies, why not Iran?
What concerns me is what Bush isn't telling us. Did you know that the US military is constructing not one, but TWO, new bases in western Afganistan, not far from the border with Iran? (Toronto Globe and Mail, early May.)
Get ready, Iran. America is quickly taken it's place as the unwanted salesman at the door during dinnertime, peddling it's idea of 'freedom' in the form of an outdated 17th-century document. And the salesman won't leave until you sign the check, and if you don't do what he says he'll hit you with that big stick he carries. Soon you will occupied, not by troops but by Subway restaurants, McDonalds, Ford dealerships, and quite possibly the formation of the Middle-Eastern Football League. Aren't you glad you have America to watch out for your 'freedom'?
Bring it on, folks. It's been pretty quiet around here lately.
